Colors

The screaming no-color of
   abandonment

Grey, the why bother color
   worn to tone down fuscia

The unrelieved ecru of
    insomnia

Puce, the color worn by
     Jane Austen women

The black well of
   disappointment

Waiting for the other shoe to drop
hues not yet seen on color wheel

Perspective, a blurred
     rainbowed peak

Blotting the bleeding watercolors of
      despair

The indecision of
       plaid

The elegance of
        paisley

The confinement of
        stripes

The dizzy prepubescence of
         polka dots

Hats off to anyone who dares
          chartreuse

Coffee-colored time out

The epidermal flesh-colored face mask.

LOL–lots to enjoy here Jackie, though I’m not sure any in Jane Austen would wear puce:)

Glad you enjoyed, Steve. Beg to differ…letters and journals by and about Austen show she knitted and wore puce hats. I will, however, accept your spelling. Mine is incorrect and will fix. Even so, again, I use poetic license with Austen’s characters. Thanks much, for read and comment!

  2. I wear piws all the time, it’s just Celtic divination for the word purple ;) love the colour mingling here Jackie, sharp observations too x

nice tribute to color. the thing that struck me the most was this:

Puce, the color worn only by
    Jane Austen women

now, you’d never guess why, so i’ll tell you. i took a color class once and the professor said to us that we could only use the names of primary and secondary colors to name colors (for example pink is red with a lot of white in it) but the only color we could use by name was “puce liver” so that line reminded me of him saying that… :)

Such a lovely, colourful poem ~ you do love your colours Jackie, don’t you? Brilliant!

Someone told me people who think alot about colors are “afflicted” with a certain neuropathological condition. Frankly, I think that’s kind of stupid, maybe even destructive to tell the “afflicted” that. And yes, Peter, I do love my colors…thanks much, mate for the read and kind words. :) ))

i think that’s stupid too. imagine what they think about people who dream in color. ooooo!!!! they are just about brain-dead i guess! IDIOTS!!

actually, i had a boss who hated when i used too much color and/or pictures in my reports. he just saw everything in technical words, and did not like color or poetry. i hated him. he literally made me sick.

Tammy! Yes. Difficult to be around unimaginative ppl. or at least those who accept and nurture magic in others. Very frustrating! Twitter is a great forum to express creativity in many areas. So you’re pretty safe and accepted here! Thanks for the read and info!

I love the imagery here. I always think of colorful images as happy ones, and yet here you have named many colors to describe a sad state. Well done!

  7. Steve King says:

Great wit and clarity. My ties would make me either elegant or confined, so it’s a good thing I only wear one at a time.

  8. poemblaze says:

I love the poem. A friend once told me my gang color is plaid. Fits with your description.

  9. brian miller says:

nice trip throughthe colors…i will take a time out for coffee any time…puce has such an odd name…your pairings made me look at a few with fresh eyes though…i like…

  10. hedgewitch says:

The indecision of plaid–wonderful! Really all of them are, though I admit I am fond of grey and puce in some things–like maybe birds and sunsets? Enjoyed this very much indeed. You have a unique perspective and communicate it well.

I like your journey :) lovely write.

  12. I love anything that plays with colors in an almost synasthetic way. This poem does a good job of making the world of color and attitudes and emotions take on a livelier meaning for me. Being color blind at least according to my better half I will simply have to trust you that plaid is what you say it is, really?? :-( I love plaid.
