I watch you
in full fathom five, immersed
in coral reefs of REM
What dark dream images
what top feeders of peace
consume your sleep?
I see gray soapy fears
bleached away
with tears
I witness the elusiveness
of the other you
chasing taloned dreams
Show me your sleep wildness
your fears
I will love that too

it’s nice to watch some people sleep. especially the ones who drive you nuts and are only peaceful when sleeping
you’ll love this REM picture:
rapid eye movement
Hahahahahahahaha! So true. Thanks for the read, comment, and the little extra, Tammy!
Vivid portrayal of “very bad mid-summer-night dream”!!!
Hello, J! Glad you connected to this piece. Thanks so much for the read and comment

I assume you’re talking Rapid Eye Movement rather than the rock band… hehe… love this –
coral reefs of REM
though I might have chosen to spell out ‘Rapid Eye Movement’ rather than using the acronym. Strong piece; particularly like the tercets structure
Oh! Did the rock group hit the reefs? Too bad….LOL! Yup. I meant rapid eye movement…and actually, you might be right..Some are not familiar with the term…and yes they might confuse with the musical group. Thanks, Luke…appreciate that and your kind comment!
Love this so much, Jackie! I can savour every word of it. The line “what top feeders of peace” is brilliant and evokes all kinds of things. The last line is perfect.
So glad you connect to this piece, Dean. Much appreciate your read, comment, and support !

Again you take my breath away – such a tender loving poem – the structure is perfect and reads like a lullaby
Woot! Woot! So happy you liked this…:))) Thanks so much, M!!
The last stanza stays and stays and deserves said to the wakeful…. Good stuff J.
Hey there, BC! You encourage me with those words…Thanks so very much!!
Excellent write !
Thank you

Really sweet.

It touches me that you see that, Eden. Thanks so much

Love this poem too, the love emerging from it : ) “immersed / in coral reefs of REM” sounds very expressive. I can’t translate “Full fathom five” properly, but it’s meaning is obvious.
Yes, even if you don’t know the exact meaning of the expression, you can concur that it is a measurement in the sea. The expression was used by Shakespeare in “The Tempest.” Glad you like the poem, Martin! Thank you

“I watch you in full fathom five” that goes deep madam. Beautiful piece.
Aw, I love your encouraging words…:)) thanks so much, Monty

Wow..
One of the best comments I’ve ever received. It says multitudes…:)) Thanks, Steve,…poet guy!
beautiful closure on this…the invitation to share those dark dreams and the promise to still love them as well…i like that much…also the intimacy of watching another sleep…
Aw, thanks Brian…I do like watching loved ones sleep…those unguarded moments, to me, are precious and beautiful. Glad you related to this! Much gratitude for your comment

Like how those first few lines melded sleep and swim together. Works so well. And the 4th stanza just lights it up.
Great write.
O, wow! How complimentary. And encouraging! Thanks so much for the read and comment!
I love the intimacy in this and I still think it’s excellent
Really nice of you to read and comment a second time! Very encouraging and supportive. Thank you so much !

This is great, Jackie & I love that last verse especially…”show me your sleep wildness” ~ terrific!
Yay! Coming from you, dear Louise, that is a fine compliment! Thanks so much for the read and lovely comment!
Wonderful! As one who seldom sleeps, I’ve spent more than my share of moments trying to sort out just what the better half might be fretting about…hmmm…might be I just figured why I don’t sleep…he enjoys beyond rapid eye movement…loved the write, Jackie!
Curious, isn’t it to guess ….to know what other lives our loved ones are leading in sleep…thanks much for the read and comment, Tash!
It’s so hard to know what’s going on underneath…yet that’s what we most want to learn. We’re all so much more complex than anyone else can ‘fathom’ This is engaging and thoughtful. Nice work.
You’re so right with that, Steve! Yet we still try to fathom and peek through keyholes… Thank you for the read and comment!
How far do we sink in deep sleep. Perhaps back to prehistoric fins and feathers. Nicely executed and imagined (and written as well). Thank you!
Yes, dreams can be as raw and edgy as prehistoric times…Thank you for the read and supportive comments, Gay!
Wonderful, simply wonderful love poem that brings to life those realities of people we love so deeply and with all of our being. I too know what you mean about loving the dream life of one’s beloved. That mystery that reveals themselves to themselves but also us to ourselves as we enter into the truthfulness of their trust when they tell us their dreams. Excellent write, J.
So glad, Chazzy, you got this right on! It is trust…I’m talking about here. Great comment! Thanks so much!
