A heart soars searching for its beat
watching sudden bursts of flamingo
blushing at the edge of a
timorous lemon yellow sun
Yet unsure, hiding in pewter rim
and doubtful Turner sky
Phoenix readies, softly feathering
inky shadows of night to fading ash
Icarus, that fool..smoothes his scorched wings
smiling with hope
still thinking Olympian thoughts
burning with desire to belong
Dawn winks as the wily cawing crow
silken in his craven upward course
makes his slow inky, indelible stamp
on a waiting blood-orange sun
Crow will have the day
he understands, bowing, embellishing
the beauty of Dawn
gratefully receiving his crumbed reward
Dawn’s eternal welcome, rainbowed
regal reign of hope, expectation, order.

Like so many of your pieces, you finish really well, and really hit your stride in the second half of this, from “dawn winks” onwards is a poem in itself, this goes for Life Suspended too, where the last two stanzas and end line are perfect in themselves, although I know would take away from the specifics of what you are dealing with….. Always a pleasure to read Jackie

Hi, love this one, especially how you capture the colors of the sky. So rarely got to see dawn. Way to early for me at the moment. 2:30 am
Hi, Bjorn! So pleased you like this poem! I always see the dawn, since I’m an insomniac. lol. Sleep, my friend…and thank you so much for your kind words
I love this, Jackie. You paint your metaphors very well, vibrantly and with tuned lyrical quality. Quite stunning!
Hi, Q! So pleased you like this! This one kind of poured out unexpectedly from micros. Thanks so much for the lovely comment!
Third try – on computer, not BlkBrry, this time. I like this. A lot. I like the avian allusions and the fact that the man, attempting being a bird fails to get it.
Hi, ya, Buddy!…see what happens whey we try to be what we aint….Thanks so much for the read and comment! Mwah!
Superb – love it – the doubtful Turner sky – wow what an image! And #theremustbecrowsinit – love the crow! I saw the crow – what a stunning dawn! The ending is strong as Brian says – as always you have given me beautiful images that will live with me

Goodo! Happy you like “Dawn” Thank you!
Oh wow! This poem is so, so rich in imagery ~ I can see the whole spectacular dawn, Jacquie ~ & the flamingoes, Icarus &, of course, the humble yet incredibly ‘knowing’ crow, who sits, watches & accepts the beauty & truth of the scene unfolding in front of him. Absolutely luscious write

Dawn is so inspiring, if one really looks…I enjoyed writing this one. Thanks so much for your lovely comment, mate! Yay

‘blushing at the edge of a
timorous lemon yellow sun’ immediately I tingled at these words Jacquie – gorgeous -
and the ‘dawn winks’ ‘as the wily cawing crow
silken in his craven upward course
makes his slow inky, indelible stamp
on a waiting blood-orange sun’ sublime imagery -
the readyness is all, as the heart begins to soar with the dawn – I so love your words Jacquie – serious, nourishing food for the soul – hugs you Lib x x

Dang! You read me so well, Brad! lol! Thanks so much:)) xo
You’re welcome, love. ♥
Great personification/multiple incarnation even, of the dawn, jackie–I especially like the reference to Icarus’ flight as a quest to belong to the society of the gods. And as always, gorgeous description.
Thanks much Hedge…well, we know what happened to Icarus and his eternal hubris…Pleased you like Dawn

This is really majestic, very in tune with those elemental powers that rule so much of our lives. The use of birds to embody various virtues, carrying out that cosmic plan which proceeds above and beyond our will, is quite arresting. Your words sound like a Pindaric ode to the spirits, calling into being the very forces that the words describe.
That my poem reminds you of Pindaric odes…is flattering indeed. Thanks so much, Chazzy, for the lovely compliment!
beautiful images jackie..the crumbed reward of the crow…the whole part with icarus, smoothing scorched wings and smiling with hope, ha… and the still thinking olympic thoughts made me smile..tenacious..eh..
Ha! Pleased you like this, Claudia! Thanks so much!
Love the use of colour, and how you brought mythology into this. Great closing lines as well.
And as always, the imagery’s the best. Awesome work as always.
So glad you stopped by, Sky
Pleased you like the imagry and woven myth, closing line..thanks so much for the lovely comment!
